What is styrene
Styrene is an important organic chemical raw material, its chemical formula is C8H8, flammable, dangerous chemical, from pure benzene and ethylene synthesis. It is mainly used in the production of foaming polystyrene (EPS), polystyrene (PS), ABS and other synthetic resins and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), SBS elastomer, downstream products are widely used in building insulation, automobile manufacturing, household appliances, toy manufacturing, textile, paper, shoe packaging and other industries. In addition, it can also be used as medicine, pesticide, dye, mineral intermediates, has a wide range of uses. Styrene derivatives are the fourth LARGEST ethylene derivatives after polyethylene, ethylene oxide and vinyl chloride, and the production of styrene resins is second only to polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
1. Industrial Chain
The characteristics of the styrene industry chain can be summarized as “upper bearing oil and coal, lower bearing rubber” — upper bearing petroleum chemical industry chain and coal chemical industry chain, lower bearing synthetic resin and synthetic rubber industry.
2.Use
In the upstream of styrene for ethylene and pure benzene, downstream for styrene, EPS foam polystyrene, acrylonitrile – butadiene – styrene terpolymer, SBR/SBL styrene butadiene rubber, styrene latex as downstream dispersant. EPS, ABS and PS are the largest downstream demand of styrene, accounting for more than 70%. In addition to this part of downstream demand, styrene is also used in pharmaceutical, dye, pesticide, mineral processing and other industries.
EPS foamed polystyrene is made from styrene and foaming agent additive products, has a relative density of small, low thermal conductivity, low water absorption, shock vibration, heat insulation, sound insulation, moisture-proof, anti-vibration, dielectric performance is good wait for an advantage, it is mainly used for building insulation materials, electrical appliances/office appliances package cushioning materials and one-time drink cup/boxes, etc.
PS polystyrene is widely used in light industry, especially for daily decoration, lighting indication and product packaging. In addition, polystyrene is an excellent insulation material in the electrical aspect, so it can also be used to manufacture a variety of instrument shells, instrument components and capacitive media.
ABS resin is made of styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene terpolymer, has excellent impact resistance, chemical resistance and electrical properties, is an excellent shell material, mainly used in home appliances/office appliances shell and accessories, car dashboard/door/fender.
