On March 19th, the first batch of 17 cars of refined salt successfully entered Qilu Petrochemical Chlorine-alkali Plant after passing the test. The caustic soda raw materials made a new breakthrough for the first time. Refined salt with better quality will gradually replace part of sea salt, further expand the procurement channels and reduce the procurement cost.
In October 2020, a new brine project was completed and put into operation in the Chlor-alkali Plant, producing qualified brine to supply caustic soda units. At the end of November, the performance of the primary brine renovation project passed the assessment, the inorganic membrane brine filtration unit of the new process was brought into normal operation management, and the brine produced by the newly built primary brine unit was of better quality.
In order to further improve the quality of salt water, reduce the sludge produced by the device, reduce environmental protection disposal costs, and completely solve the problem of environmental protection, chlorine-alkali plant is not independent, in-depth study can purchase refined salt as caustic soda raw material with the price of sea salt, the refined salt impurities are less, almost no sludge, and do not add too much “three agents” can produce high quality salt water, it can be said that there are many advantages. The application for the purchase of refined salt was soon approved by the company and included in the plan. The factory also listed the purchase of refined salt as one of the production optimization projects this year.
The chlor-alkali plant has been using sea salt as caustic soda raw material for electrolysis, and there is no production experience of using refined salt as caustic soda raw material. On the one hand, the factory and the material installation center in-depth communication, coordination, exchange. After multiple investigation, two units were determined as the supplier of refined salt, and then the procurement was organized. On the other hand, the organization of technical force in advance to prepare the test plan, such as refined salt into the factory after the first time to test.
On March 19, the first batch of 17 cars of refined salt arrived at the factory smoothly. They first closed the doors of the factory to increase the number of sampling and testing of refined salt outside the factory. At the same time, sampling and testing were carried out on each car. On the same day, the electrochemical workshop of the factory quickly organized employees to operate according to the pre-prepared test plan.
“Refined salt is less impurities than sea salt, fine particles, water evaporation is faster than sea salt, easy to coagulate, so the storage time is short, should be used as soon as possible.” Chlorine-alkali plant electrochemical workshop director Yang Ju said.
The staff found in the operation that the refined salt particles are finer than sea salt, and it is easy to stick to the conveyor belt and the feeding port in the process of salt loading. According to the site situation, they quickly make adjustments to reduce the amount of salt on the belt, extend the salt time, increase the number of salt, control the salt height on the salt pond, and ensure the safety of the first step of salt.
After entering the new primary saline device, the device runs stably, and then contact laboratory personnel to sample and test the primary saline water quality. After testing, and compared with the sea salt index, the salt concentration, calcium, magnesium and other indicators in the primary brine are stable.
The electrochemical workshop quickly contacted the caustic soda workshop, and the two workshops cooperated closely. Qualified brine produced by the electrochemical workshop entered the caustic soda device for electrolysis. The staff of the caustic soda workshop operated carefully.
“As of March 30, the first batch of more than 3,000 tons of refined salt has been used more than 2,000 tons, and all the indicators have met the production requirements. During the test phase, we have timely dealt with the problems found to ensure the normal loading of salt, and comprehensively summarized the problems to provide support for the equipment transformation.” Yang Ju said.
Zhang Xianguang, deputy director of the production technology Department of the Chlor-alkali Plant, introduced that the use of refined salt is a new breakthrough of the chlor-alkali plant. It is expected that 10,000 tons of refined salt will be used in 2021, which can reduce the consumption of “three doses”, reduce the production of salt mud, and reduce the cost of hazardous waste treatment.
